E-commerce data in Turkey according to 2020 “Household Information Technologies (IT) Usage Research”

Turkish Statistic Institute (TÜİK) published 2020 Household Information Technologies (IT) Usage Research. Accordingly, the ratio of people in e-commerce in Turkey is 36.5%. This was 34.1% in the same period of the previous year. Internet usage was 79.0% among individuals in 16-74 age group. In 2019, internet use in Turkey was 75.3%.

TÜİK published research called 2020 Household Information Technologies (IT) Usage Research. According to research data, e-commerce and internet use in Turkey increased by 2 and 4 points.

The ratio of people in e-commerce in Turkey increased by 2.4%.

According to the research, online ordering or online purchasing increases by 2.4% compared to the previous year. According to 12-month data between April 2019 and March 2020, 16-74 years old individuals that ordered goods or service online for personal use is 36.5%. This was 34.1% in the same period in 2019.

According to e-commerce data in Turkey according to 2020 “Household Information Technologies (IT) Usage Research”:

  • The ratio of men in e-commerce was 40.2% and online shopping or ordering goods or service online was 32.7% among women. In the same period of 2019, this was 38.3% for men and 29.9% for women.
  • 60.9% of the people who ordered goods or services online or purchased online in Turkey purchased clothing, shoe and accessories.
  • In e-commerce shopping, 26.1% of purchases were in the printed book, magazine and newspapers.
  • 22.5% of e-shoppers ordered food online or purchased catering services.
  • 21.1% of online consumers purchased cosmetic, beauty and health products.
  • 17.6% purchased cleaning products and personal care products online with e-commerce.
  • Online furniture, home decor, garden materials purchasing was 17.0%.

68.5% of women in e-commerce purchased clothing, shoe and accessories.

54.2% of men that ordered or purchased online in e-commerce in Turkey purchased clothing, shoe and accessories. 24.1% of men ordered online food or used catering services. 22.5% of men in e-commerce purchased the printed book, magazine and newspapers.

68.5% of women in e-commerce purchased clothing, shoe and accessories while this was 31.5% for cosmetic, beauty and health products and 30.2% for a printed book, magazine and newspapers.

2020 Household Information Technologies (IT) Usage Research has internet use rates in addition to e-commerce data in Turkey. In 2020, internet users in Turkey were %79 for 16-74 age group. This was 75.3% in the same period in 2019. The research data showed that men ranked at the top with 84.7% internet use. Internet use in women was 73.3%.

According to research, internet access from home reached 90.7%. This was 88.3% in 2019. The household with broadband internet access was 89.9%. Accordingly, 50.8% of the houses had internet access with a fixed broadband connection (ADSL, wired internet, fibre etc.). 86.9% of internet users access the internet with mobile broadband. In 2019, broadband internet access was 87.9% for the houses.

E-state use increased to 51.5%.

According to TÜİK internet use research, 16-74 years old individual that used the internet to contact with public organisations and institutions and use the public services for personal use was 51.5%. This was 51.2% in the same period of the previous year. The first e-state service usage purpose was to obtain information from public institution websites with 48.7%.
