While the export to China in various sectors decreased with the pandemic in the first half of the year, there has been increase in export in eight sectors despite pandemic.

Firms and sectors that export from Turkey to Chine show an acceleration. While the export to China in various sectors decreased with the pandemic in the first half of the year, there has been increase in export in eight sectors despite pandemic. Sectors that experienced increased export from Turkey to China are as follows: automotive, steel, iron and other metals, cereals, grains, oily seeds, fresh vegetable and fruits, read-wear and confection, furniture, paper and forest products, tobacco.

According to Turkish Exporters Association (TİM) data, June exports of Turkey increased by 15.8%. June exports were 13 billion 469 million dollars. Total agriculture export of Turkey in the first 6 months of 2020 increased by 3.1% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 11 billion 282 million 129 thousand dollars.

Firms That Export to China Are Mainly In Agriculture Sector

Firms that export to China showed a good performance. Export from Turkey to China in the first 6 months of 2020 decreased by 7.72% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 billion 151 million 539 thousand 49 dollars. Firms that export to China are mainly in agriculture sector.

Accordingly, the first 6 months export numbers and ratios of firms or sectors that export to China are as follows:

  • Iron and other metals: 98 million 664 thousand 14 dollars (218.34% increase)
  • Fresh fruit and vegetable – 856 thousand 4 dollars (106.65% increase)
  • Furniture, paper and forest products – 35 million 378 thousand 95 (72.37% increase)
  • Steel – 7 million 493 thousand 5 dollars (68.20% increase)
  • Cereals, grains, oily seeds – 23 million 550 thousand 73 (59.24% increase)
  • Ready-wear and confection – 58 million 114 thousand 20 (57.87% increase)
  • Tobacco – 476 thousand 80 dollars (17% increase)
  • Automotive – 23 million 561 thousand 57 dollars (5.56% increase)

Sectors With Decreased Export to China

The highest decrease to export to China was in jewellery sector.

There are firms with decreased export to China. The highest decrease to export to China was in jewellery sector. The decrease in export to China for the sectors is as follows:

  • Jewellery – 98.74%
  • Defence and aviation industry – 78.69%
  • Ship and yacht – 73.20%
  • Water products and animal products – 61.64%
  • Other industrial products – 60.38%
  • Climatization industry – 38.85%
  • Nuts and nut products – 37.89%
  • Olive and olive oil – 36.58%
  • Dried fruits and products – 36.01%
  • Carpet – 35.75%
  • Leather and leather products – 28.16%
  • Cement, glass, ceramic and soil product – 25.11%
  • Chemicals and chemical products – 18.80%
  • Machinery and machine parts – 14.73%
  • Mining products – 13.96%
  • Electric and electronic – 10.07%
  • Fruit and vegetable products – 10.03%
  • Textile and raw materials – 0.33%

While mining firms among the firms that export to China experienced 13.96% decrease in the first half of the year, 556 million 87 thousand 7 dollars-worth mining products were exported to China. While export in chemical materials was 133 million 422 thousand 84 dollars, export in iron and other metals was 98 million 664 thousand 14 dollars. Ready-wear and confection export was 58 million 114 thousand 20 dollars. Total export in electric and electronic products to China was 48 million 657 thousand 22 dollars.

54 dairy and dairy product firm will export to China.

In the meantime, 54 firms that will export dairy and dairy products from Turkey to China received export authority for different product ranges. The Ministry of Commerce announced that 54 firms in dairy and dairy products in Turkey no longer has barriers to export with China. Chinese Customs Office reported to announce the firms that can make dairy and dairy products. China is importing approximately 6 billion dollars of dairy products. Turkish dairy and dairy product firms joining among the firms that export to China is considered as a positive development for export numbers after the pandemic. Turkish dairy and dairy product producers export to 88 countries. By the end of the year, 50 million dollar dairy and dairy product export is expected for China.
