“Announcement on Amendments for Announcement on Electronic Commerce Trust Stamp” published by the Ministry of Commerce will prevent unreasonable price increasing and stocking in e-commerce.

“Strong SMEs with Facebook” grant program will distribute 7 million TL to SMEs in Turkey.

Ruhsar Pekcan, the Minister of Commerce explained in the 16th Meeting of Advisory Council that first phase of “Easy Export Platform” is completed and ready for operation.

Pekcan said that “this system that aims to spread export to the base will be promoted and operational in the shortest time possible” and emphasised the increasing e-commerce and cross-border e-commerce volume during pandemic. Pekcan stated that e-commerce volume as of 2019 was 136 billion lira and noted that they have commissioned “Virtual Commerce Academy” and “Export Academy” training programs. Pekcan noted that they have commissioned e-commerce training and stated that they are trying to lead women and young entrepreneurs to e-commerce.

TOBB Chairman Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle, DEİK Chairman Nail Olpak, TESK Chairman Bendevi Palandöken, TÜSİAD Chairman Simone Kaslowski, MÜSİAD Chiarman Abdurrahman Kaan and TMB Chairman Mithat Yenigün participated to video conference meeting.

“Announcement on Amendments for Announcement on Electronic Commerce Trust Stamp” published by the Ministry of Commerce adjust the minimum standards for service providers and mediator service providers to get trust stamp. Accordingly, service providers will have to design processes for unreasonable price increase, stocking and prohibited or partially permitted product sales on e-commerce amendments and official decisions. The Amendment prevents unreasonable price increase in a good or service and preventing consumers to access goods.

E-commerce ecosystem actors are positive about the amendment. Sector representatives indicated the importance of new firms in e-commerce to gain trust so that unknown e-commerce businesses can be included in the ecosystem.

During pandemic, products in some categories in e-commerce websites had unreasonable price increase. Firms were punished for unreasonable price increase and stocking. After this event, “trust stamp” implementation was started to make internet shopping safer. The latest amendment expands the scope of this implementation and prevent unreasonable price increases in e-commerce.

7 million TL from Facebook to SMEs

Facebook, the largest social media platform around the world initiates “Strong SMEs with Facebook” grant program that will distribute 7 million TL to SMEs in Turkey. Program applications will end on 26 August!

Facebook initiated grant program to support SMEs that negatively effect from the coronavirus. The giant company will grant total of 100 million dollars to 30 thousand SMEs in more than 30 countries. SMEs from Turkey can be involved in Facebook grant program. SMEs can receive cash and ad support in this program. In the Turkish branch of the program, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), İstanbul Female Entrepreneurs Association, TOBB İstanbul Young Entrepreneurs Committee and Deloitte will collaborate.

Facebook SME Grant Program Conditions

SMEs that want to benefit from Facebook grant program must meet certain criteria. These are as follows:

  • Operating in İstanbul
  • Being a for-profit organization
  • Having at least 2, at most 50 employees
  • Operating for at least 1 years
  • Having negative impact from the coronavirus pandemic
